Paul Mullin    3/7/90-10/04/02

My son, Paul, was born with a hypoplastic right ventricle.  When he was 3 mos. old he had a Blalock shunt and a modified Fontan at 2 years old.  For the past 10 years he led a healthy life.  The only medication he took was a tablet of baby aspirin.  He was active like any other normal boy.  He would always breathe heavy when he was running or playing hard with the other kids.  He never let that stop him.  He was able to play baseball.

In July of 2002 he developed cardiomyopathy.  After it was determined that neither medications nor surgery were going to help, he was placed on the heart transplant list.  He spent 6 weeks in the hospital waiting for a heart.  He was still active while in the hospital roaming about to the other floors and visiting new friends.  But his condition continued to deteriorate.

The community pulled together to stand beside Paul and my family.  He became an inspiration to many people in our community.  We all prayed that he would get a new heart.  That day never came.  Paul passed away on October 4, 2002, his brother's birthday.  Paul was a bit of comedian and I remember the funny comments he would say and that get me through each day.  He now has the chance to finally meet his grandfather whom he was named after.  I cherish the day I am reunited with my son and his grandfather.

Paul's Mom forever
